Mamo.hr "Od manjka glava ne boli" was an exhibition and humanitarian event I organized in two cities—Rijeka and Zagreb. It presents thirteen real stories of women who have either battled cancer or lost a loved one to the disease. Each story reveals the struggle and courage that defined these women’s lives, including my own mother's journey after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019.
The exhibition challenges the prejudice often faced by cancer patients. A woman without a breast is no less of a woman for it, just as a woman without hair is not diminished by her fight. Every person dealing with cancer remains who they are—someone with dreams, needs, plans, and emotions, just like any healthy person.
The design is inspired by the number of women represented in the exhibition—thirteen. Thirteen simplified and playful illustrations of a breast, each in a different color, represent the strength and uniqueness of the women behind this exhibition. By repeating the illustrations in a fun, approachable way, the design aims to reduce the stigma around discussing breast cancer, doing breast self-checks, and talking about breasts in general.
The color pink, as a symbol of breast cancer awareness, is inviting and comforting, making conversations around cancer feel less intimidating.
A heartfelt thank you to all the women who participated in the exhibition and generously shared a part of their lives.
Months before the exhibition, I teamed up with a dozen local Croatian artists to create merchandise, with all proceeds donated to non-profits supporting cancer patients.
Thank you to Ingeborg Reichel, Rina Barbarić, Antonio Filipović, Lucika Lucić, Tanja Blašković (Eston Teco), Andreja Jandrečić, and Studio Rozi for generously donating your work. The merchandise was hand-printed by Bruno Butorac. Special thanks to Anja Kukor and Paula Tončić for photographing the events.
